Football Victoria Purpose (Mission/Aim)

Football Victoria’s purpose is to create and maintain a quality environment that provides easy access and encourages participation in Australian Football at all levels throughout Victoria.

  

Overview of Role

One of Football Victoria’s key objectives is to capture and develop talented players to maximise their opportunity to play AFL and VFL football. Football Victoria conducts talented player development programs through its regional network and at the State level for National Championship participation

 

The High Performance Coach is a key member of Football Victoria’s Talent Development program staff. The High Performance Coach’s primary responsibility is to ensure that coaching throughout the Talent Development programs, in both regional and State programs, is at a standard that maximises the development of players in the talent programs.

 

The High Performance Coach’s key roles are to design and implement development programs for coaches, conditioning, medical and recruiting staff in regional talent programs; to design and conduct specialist coaching programs for talented players; to support the AIS/AFL High Performance coach with the development of Victorian AIS/AFL Academy members; to assist the coaching of each of the four Victorian youth National Championship teams; and to assist the conduct of specialist football programs in Secondary schools.

 

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

Required

·         Level II coach accreditation and commencement of Level III accreditation within 12 months of appointment.

·         Experience in coaching in the AFL or in talented player programs at State level.

·         Demonstrated leadership skills.

·         Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.

·         Experience in the use of vision editing and performance analysis programs

 

Desired

·         Tertiary qualifications in Human Development, Human Movement, or Physical Education

·         Demonstrated ability to identify and nurture youth talent.

·         Experience in a Secondary educational setting

Coach and Support Staff Development

To further develop the training and development program for TAC Cup, relevant VFL, and National Championship coaches, and TAC Cup conditioning, medical, and recruiting staff, in order to assist implementation of innovative and best practice in the talent development programs

·         Three coaching, and at least one conditioning, medical, and recruiting, staff development program to be conducted each year.

·         Coach development programs are evaluated as successful by the participants

·         Evidence of ongoing development of the Talented Player Coaching Curriculum and implementation in regional talent programs.

Specialist Coaching Programs for Talented Players

To further develop specialist programs for talented players, including programs for tall players and for players who require kicking and other skill development in order to assist talented player development. Where possible, Regional program coaching staff to attend program sessions to assist their development.

·         Specialist programs are conducted in each school holiday period for tall players and in kicking development

·         Measurable improvement in skill execution by players involved in specialist coaching programs

·         Evidence of improved specialist coaching in regional talent programs

Human Resource Management

To assist in the performance management and employment of coaches in the talent development programs to ensure the performance of the coaches is monitored and developed, and that quality coaching appointments are made

·         To attend TAC Cup and National Championship team training sessions periodically

·         To regularly attend TAC Cup matches

·         To attend Football Victoria Under 16 Carnivals to view and assess coaching practices

·         To be effective in assisting the Operations Manager in talent program coach’s performance management and employment

AFL National Youth Championships

To provide technical coaching assistance to Victoria’s National Championship coaches, and, if required, to coach or be an assistant coach/selector for National Championship teams to enhance player and team performance.

·         Evidence of successful involvement in National Championship programs

·         Positive impact on coaching processes and player development in National Championship programs

Technology in Coaching

To investigate, and implement where feasible, technological initiatives to assist talented player coaching, particularly for players in remote areas to assist player development

·         Evidence of technological innovation in talent development programs

·         Implementation of technology based coaching initiatives for players in remote areas

Secondary School Football Programs

To facilitate the development and implementation of standardised curricula in specialist football programs in Secondary schools and to support the conduct of the Maribyrnong Secondary College High Performance Football program, in order to enhance development of students/players participating in the above school programs.

·         Conduct of at least annual meetings of school personnel involved in conduct of specialist school programs

·         Evidence of standardised specialist football program curricula

·         Successful periodic involvement in specialist football programs in schools

·         Successful involvement in Maribyrnong SC high performance football program

First Choice Athlete’ Identification

To assist the development of strategies to identify and recruit, in liaison with Regional staff, multi talented athletes with football talent potential to increase the Victorian talent pool.

·         Evidence of the development of a feasible strategy and recruitment of more multi talented athletes to the talent programs

AIS/AFL Academy Support

To assist the AIS/AFL High Performance coach with the implementation of the Academy program, particularly for Victorian scholarship holders and their involvement in school football programs.

·         Development of an effective working relationship with the AIS/AFL Academy coach and being an effective member of the Academy support staff

·         Development of productive relationships with Victorian AIS/AFL Academy members and evidence of Victorian Academy members development being enhanced.

 

AFL Draft Camp and State Screening day

To monitor the preparation of players selected to attend the AFL Draft Camp and State Screening day and to attend the Draft camp and State Screening day to assist the participating players performances at the camp

·         Evidence of effective communication with TAC Cup clubs regarding the preparation of their players for the Draft Camp and State Screening day.

·         Evidence of productive attendance and involvement in the Draft Camp and State Screening day

 

Football Victoria Development Coach Education Program Support

Assist with the presentation of selected coach education programs conducted by the State Director of Coaching to assist the development of coaching in Victoria

·         Effective presentation of sessions in selected FVD coach education programs.

 

Personal Development

To actively seek to improve coaching knowledge and experience

·         Commence Level 3 within 12 months of appointment

·         To attend AFL club training sessions and develop links with AFL coaches
